This recipe is one of my old-fashioned family recipes. Hearty Hot Beef Sandwiches served on a baked bread, layered with the garlic and topped with some matured cheese.
The sauce itself tastes like heaven. You can use it for any kind of pasta or lasagne. Easy, fast and incredibly delicious! Serve with a good beer and enjoy!
Total Time: 30 minutes
Shopping List
1 medium onion, peeled and finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, crushed, peeled and finely chopped
350g of good quality minced beef
Kosher Salt and ground black pepper
1 chili or 1 teaspoon of sambal
½ cup of full-flavoured red wine
2 tablespoons of tomato passata
1 tablespoon of tomato purée
A splash of vinegar and Soy Sauce
1 teaspoon of cane sugar
1 teaspoon of Dijon Mustard
The Toppings:
8 medium slices of bread
2 whole cloves of garlic, peeled
Olive oil
4 handfuls of matured cheese like Gouda, Cheddar or Old Amsterdam
Instructions
The Sauce
In a medium frying pan or wok heat up a splash of olive oil. Add the onion and sautee for about 2 minutes on high heat until it softens.
Stir in the garlic, just to smell it out for few more seconds.
Next, minced beef in. Break it with a spatula and nicely sear it all over.
After the meat has a perfect color and texture, season with salt and pepper and flavour up with some chili or sambal. Mix.
Baste with the wine and reduce.
Lower the meat to medium and add the rest of the ingredients: passata, tomato purée, vinegar, Soy Sauce, cane sugar and Dijon mustard. Taste.
Cover with a lid and let it simmer for 15 more minutes, so the flavour comes within.
The Toppings
Meanwhile, prepare the bread. Sprinkle generously with some olive oil and bake in the preheated oven on 180 degrees until golden, for about 5 minutes.
Brush with the garlic and spoon the beef over the top. Finish the Hot Beef Sandwiches with cheese and serve immediately. Yummy!
